Ingredient Notes
- thawed frozen cherries: You may choose fresh cherries in the cherry season too. We typically use frozen dark sweet cherries from ALDI.
- pure maple syrup: or brown sugar.
- Greek yogurt: plain unsweetened yogurt.
- milk: we used full-fat cow's milk, but almond milk, oat milk or other unsweetened non-dairy milk types will work too.
- oats: we recommend using rolled oats, also known as old-fashioned oats or porridge oats, for the best texture. You may use quick oats or steel-cut oats (the former will need less time, and the latter will need at least 8-9 hours of chilling time).
- chia seeds: hemp hearts, ground almonds, and ground flax seed are all great options for mix-ins too. You may also add a drop of vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste.

EXTRAS: add ½ teaspoon of cocoa powder (or cacao powder) and a tablespoon of dark chocolate chips for a Black Forest Gateau-inspired breakfast.

Topping Ideas
Now, the world is your oyster! We love these Cherry Overnight Oats with either extra cherries and toasted crunchy almonds (or other chopped nuts) on top. Or a dusting of cocoa powder! Or all of the above!
But these creamy oats will go beautifully with a swirl of almond butter (or peanut butter), a range of fresh fruit and berries, seeds and nuts!
Step-By-Step Recipe
1. The night before, place cherries (thawed if using frozen cherries), maple syrup, yogurt and milk in a smoothie maker. Blitz it into a smoothie.
2. In a separate bowl, mix the oats and chia seeds.

3. Pour the cherry mixture onto the oats and stir very well. Cover the bowl and leave it in the fridge overnight (or at least 4 hours).
4. The next morning, or when ready to serve, give the oats a good stir, top them with extra cherries, seeds and nuts of your choice and enjoy! Drizzle everything with a little bit of maple syrup if you need extra sweetness.

Storage
These Overnight Cherry Oats will keep well in the fridge for 3-4 days, making them perfect for a meal prep breakfast. We find that oats made with higher-fat-content milk keep better. Store in an airtight container or individual jars for an easy grab-and-go option throughout the week.
