Few things feel as effortlessly festive as a tray of fig crostini landing on the table just as guests arrive. Sweet roasted figs, creamy tangy goat cheese, crisp baguette and a whisper of honey hit that sweet–savoury balance that works every single time. These fig goat cheese crostini are elegant without being fussy, perfect for Christmas, New Year’s, or any holiday party where you want a “didn’t try too hard, but absolutely nailed it” moment.
1teaspoonrunny honeyplus extra to finish, optional
a couple fresh thyme sprigs
black pepper and sea salt
Optional:
A small handful walnuts or pistachiostoasted and roughly chopped
A few drops balsamic vinegar or glaze
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 200°C (fan 180°C).
Quarter the figs and place them cut-side up on a small baking tray. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon olive oil, season lightly with salt and black pepper, and scatter over thyme leaves.
Roast for 10–12 minutes, until soft and lightly caramelised but still holding their shape.
Brush the baguette slices lightly with the remaining olive oil and toast until golden and crisp at the edges, either in the oven or in a hot pan.
While the baguette slices are still warm, top each with a slice of Chavroux La Bûche. Add a roasted fig quarter on top.
Drizzle lightly with honey (optional), add freshly ground black pepper, and scatter over a few more thyme leaves.
Finish with toasted walnuts or a few drops of balsamic or cider vinegar if using. Serve warm.
