    Greens, Salads and Veggies

What better way to serve delicious chicken cutlets in caper butter sauce than with healthy veggies? Best side dishes that are both delicious and nutritious to go with piccata chicken include:

    Pan-Fried Tenderstem Broccoli

Our favorite way to cook tenderstem broccoli (also known as broccolini) is in a large skillet with olive oil, lemon juice and a generous amount of garlic. Top this versatile and nutritious side dish with some lemon slices and you have an extremely aesthetically pleasing sidekick to serve with chicken piccata!

    Courgette Ribbon Salad

Raw zucchini ribbons with Earl Grey dressing make a healthy side dish if you want a lighter option to serve with your chicken. The salad is topped with the lemon zest that mimics the zingy flavours in the piccata sauce.

    Sauteed Spinach

Sauteed spinach is a perfect choice if you are short on time. This side dish for chicken piccata won’t require much time to prepare and the only kitchen tools you will need are a frying pan and a spatula.

Italian Green Bean Salad With Balsamic Vinegar

If you think that a classic Italian dish should be served with an Italian side, you are in the right place. Fresh green beans are lightly blanched, mixed with onion and cherry tomatoes and drizzled with a lovely balsamic dressing!

    Brussels Sprouts With Balsamic Reduction

Quickly tossed in olive oil and garlic mixture, then roasted just enough to retain some crunch, this super flavoursome Brussels Sprouts side dish will most definitely change your mind about this often underrated vegetable. Simple ingredients and maximum flavour – that’s exactly what we like with our Chicken Piccata!

    Beetroot Salad With Feta Cheese

A great recipe if you are looking for something slightly unconventional to serve with Chicken Piccata! The parsley, salty feta and earthy beets go surprisingly well with the tangy caper sauce.

Fresh Garden Salad (Simple House Salad)

There is nothing like a simple recipe for a garden salad to go with this Italian chicken dish. Basic ingredients and unpretentious dressing does not detract from the flavours of the chicken and make a light and easy side dish.

    Air-Fryer Baby Carrots

Picture-perfect and mildly flavoured baby carrots are a delicious dish to accompany chicken piccata. Not only it adds textures and flavours to the dish, but the vibrant orange colour will also make your dinner plate truly stand out!

    Oven-Roasted Bell Peppers

Simple oven-roasted peppers are a great addition to Chicken Piccata as it adds the much-needed crunch to this dish.

    Lemon Arugula Salad

If you are looking for a great side dish that you can make with very little effort and just a couple of minutes of your time, look no further than this Arugula Salad!

Starchy Carbs: Potatoes, Pasta and Rice

There are so many different ways to cook potatoes, pasta and rice, but not all these ways will produce the best results for Chicken Piccata. Avoid overly creamy dishes (like Potatoes Au Gratin or Pasta Alfredo) as the overall dish will be too rich. Buttery Piccata sauce has enough decadence already! Here are some of our favourite starchy carbs to serve with this Italian Chicken.

    Smashed Potatoes

Golden brown, crispy on the edges, generously seasoned with sea salt and black pepper, Smaked Potatoes are a great sidekick to the sauce chicken meal.

    Boulangere Potatoes

Cooked in vegetable or chicken broth, this French Potato Bake has a delicate but delicious flavor that will not overshadow the complex taste of Chicken Piccata.

    Hasselback Baby Potatoes

Another way to cook potatoes (and make them look super fancy) is by making Hasselback baby potatoes. Partially sliced, slathered in oil and seasoning, they cook in a roasting pan in the oven. Grated Parmesan cheese scattered on top adds a wonderful finishing touch!

    Lemon Garlic Herb Rice

A great option for rice lovers is to serve Chicken Piccata with basmati rice flavoured with lemon and garlic. The flavours in this side dish resonate with the sauce of the chicken. The starchy rice also soaks up the caper sauce, making it even more delicious!

    Creamy Polenta

Extremely decadent, creamy polenta makes a perfect side dish for chicken. Contrary to the usual advice, we recommend not adding too much extra flavour to your polenta, as it will take quite a bit of flavour from the Chicken Piccata sauce.

    Bread

Do you need a bread basket on the side for it to feel like a complete meal? Do you love using bread to mop up that extra sauce left on your plate? If so, this section is for you!

    Dinner Rolls

What better choice than a simple soft and fluffy dinner roll to mop up that sauce?

    Sourdough Bread

Crusty sourdough bread slices are an obvious choice to serve with Chicken Piccata! The signature tang in sourdough bread will complement the flavour of sharp capers and lemon in the sauce itself!

    Sourdough Pesto Pull Apart Bread

Looking for something more special to serve on the side? These Pesto and cheese rolls are a great option.

    Garlic Bread

you simply cannot go wrong with everyone’s favourite bread! Crispy on the outside and with a soft interior that is soaking in garlic butter, classic garlic bread adds heaps of flavour and the needed texture for this saucy chicken main course!

    Wine Pairing

When it comes to pairing wine with chicken piccata, you want to choose a wine that will complement the flavours of the dish without overpowering them. The following wines are great options to pair with chicken piccata:

    • Sauvignon Blanc: This crisp white wine has a high acidity that pairs well with the tangy flavours of the capers and lemon in chicken piccata. Look for a bottle from New Zealand or California for the best pairing.
    • Pinot Grigio: Another dry white wine that pairs well with chicken piccata is Pinot Grigio. This wine has a light body and refreshing acidity that complements the dish perfectly.
    • Pinot Gris: Pinot Gris is a white wine that is similar to Pinot Grigio but has a slightly richer flavour profile. It has enough acidity to cut through the richness of the chicken and caper sauce.
    • Pinot Blanc: Pinot Blanc is another white wine that pairs well with chicken piccata. It has a light body and crisp acidity that complements the dish without overpowering it.

These four wines are all great options that will enhance your dining experience.

Looking For An Easy Chicken Piccata Recipe?

The side dishes listed above go equally well with chicken or veal piccata. We personally love making this Italian Chicken Piccata recipe, featuring skinless chicken breasts, lemony caper sauce and copious amounts of fresh parsley. It’s an easy but elegant dish that can be made on a busy weeknight or for a fancy dinner party!
