    Recipe Highlights

    • Classic BLT with a twist: This recipe adds creamy avocado for a richer, more indulgent version of the timeless sandwich.
    • Quick and satisfying: Ready in minutes, making it perfect for busy days when you crave something hearty.
    • One of my favourite recipes: A go-to for picnics, work lunches, or a simple yet delicious meal at home.
    • Endlessly customisable: Swap out ingredients or add extras like a dash of sriracha or fried egg to make it your own!

    Ingredient Notes

    • bacon: smoked or unsmoked, streaky or back bacon will work. We prefer thick cut bacon for these BLT sandwiches with Avocado - better texture!
    • slices of bread: simply choose your favourite bread!
    • avocado: large and ripe. Half of it needs to be mashed, and the other half sliced. Make sure to drizzle some lemon juice on both to prevent the avocado from browning.
    • tomato: beef tomato (a.k.a. beefsteak tomato) works best!
    • lettuce leaves: we used butter lettuce on this occasion but romaine lettuce will add extra crunch!
    • mayonnaise: may be replaced with sour cream or creme fraiche. Or you can simply use another avocado, mash it and spread it instead of mayo.

    Step-By-Step Recipe

    1. Fry the bacon (or grill) over medium-high heat until golden brown and crispy. Leave the cooked bacon on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess fat.

    2. In the meantime, mash half of the avocado with a fork in a small bowl. Mix in a little lemon or lime juice to prevent it from browning.

    3. Spread it on half of the bread slices (you may choose to toast your bread if you intend to eat it immediately).

    4. Place 5 crispy bacon rashers on top of each slice with avocado spread.

    5. Add the tomato slices, avocado slices and lettuce.

Placing a second slice of bread with a little mayo on top of the BLTA sandwich filling.

    6. Spread a heaped teaspoon of mayo on the remaining bread slices and place them on top of the BLTA filling sauce side down.

    7. Press the BLTA sandwiches down slightly, cut them in half and enjoy!

    Tips for Best Results

    • Flavour your mayo: use a creamy garlic aioli or make spicy mayo with a drop of sriracha if you like things on the hot side.
    • Or skip the mayo: spread yellow mustard (a great addition - trust me!) on the other slice of bread for a tangy twist. Or mash enough avocado to spread on both sides of the bread if you prefer a mayo-free sandwich.
    • Degrease your bacon: Place your crispy bacon on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil and avoid a greasy BLT sandwich with avocado.
    • Toast the bread: For extra crunch, lightly toast your bread and enjoy your sandwich warm!

Hi, I am Ieva – the cook and baker in our North Wales home. I share my life with my husband Seb, who doubles as my number-one taste tester, our golden retriever Sawyer, who’s always on crumb patrol and multiple sourdough starters. My days revolve around food—whether I’m experimenting with new recipes, tending to my veggie garden, or sneaking bites of “taste tests” (quality control, of course). Cooking isn’t just a passion; it’s my way of keeping Seb from reaching ‘hangry’ levels! Somebody HAS to feed Seb…
