Ingredients and Substitutes
Here are all the simple ingredients you will need to make this quick meal. You can find the quantities, detailed instructions and nutritional information in the recipe card at the bottom of the post:
- neutral oil: we used vegetable oil, but you can use olive oil or avocado oil. A drop of sesame oil won't go amiss here too.
- spring onions: a.k.a. green onions, cut crosswise into 4-5 pieces. You may use wedges of red onion instead.
- tenderstem broccoli: also known as broccolini. You may use regular broccoli, just make sure to cut it into very small florets, keeping the stems thin enough to soften quickly.
- mange tout: halved.
- dried egg noodles: you may also use wholewheat, glass noodles, ramen noodles or even rice noodles.
- garlic cloves.
- red chilli pepper: you may use red pepper flakes (chilli flakes) instead.
- raw king prawns: we used pre-peeled prawns that we thawed from frozen.
- teriyaki sauce: we used store-bought teriyaki sauce but you can use this homemade teriyaki sauce recipe if you wish. Other Asian sauces, like Oyster and Spring Onion, Black Bean Sauce or even Sweet Chilli Sauce, will work here. Have more sauce? - soy sauce: may be replaced with coconut aminos or tamari sauce.
- a pinch of sesame seeds.

What Other Vegetables To Add?
A great way to adjust these prawn stir fry noodles to suit your personal preferences is to add your favourite vegetables to this teriyaki prawn stir fry. Almost any crunchy fresh veggies will work! Here are some recommended additions:
- Sliced bell peppers.
- Halved snap peas or snow peas.
- Bean Sprouts.
- Green beans.
- Bok Choy (pak choi).
Step-By-Step Method
Follow these simple steps to make this simple meal:
1. Heat oil in a large skillet or a large wok.
2. Add the broccoli, mange tout and spring onion, and stir fry over medium-high heat for 5 minutes, until slightly softened and charred.

3. In the meantime, cook the noodles following the packet's instructions.
4. When your vegetables are cooked, scoop them to one side of the pan. To the emptied side of the frying pan, add the prawns, garlic and chilli and stir fry for 3-4 minutes, until prawns are pink and fully cooked through (note that cooked prawns will need less time than raw prawns: about 1-2 minutes).

5. Reduce the heat to medium-low, add the teriyaki sauce and soy sauce and stir fry to coat the vegetables and prawns in the sauce. If the sauce is very thick, you may add a splash of water or chicken stock.
6. Finally, add the cooked noodles, and stir just enough to coat and warm through.

7. Divide the teriyaki prawn noodle stir fry between bowls, sprinkle some sesame seeds on top and enjoy!
Tips For Best Results
To make sure your teriyaki prawn stir fry turns out just right, here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Use pre-cooked noodles - To make this a quick one-pan meal, go for pre-cooked noodles. Just toss them in the pan with the sauce, and they'll heat through in seconds-no need for boiling.
- Switch up the sauce - While teriyaki is a classic, feel free to experiment with other sauces to make it work for the whole family. Stir fry recipes work well with sweet and sour or oyster sauce too for a new twist on this perfect Asian dinner.
- Don't overcook the prawns - Keep a close eye on those prawns! They only need a few minutes to turn pink and tender; any longer, and they'll become rubbery.
- Prep everything in advance - Stir fry cooking is quick, so have all your ingredients chopped, sliced, and ready to go before you start.
Recipe FAQs
To make a simple teriyaki sauce, combine 2 tablespoon of dark soy sauce, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar and 1 heaped teaspoon of brown sugar. Dissolve ½ teaspoon of corn starch in 1 tablespoon of cold water in a small bowl and then mix this slurry with the rest of the mixture. Mix well until smooth, and add this stir fry sauce to your prawn stir fry with noodles.
While this recipe is best served fresh, any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge. Just keep in mind that reheating will cause the noodles and prawns to become overcooked.
Yes, you can use cooked prawns! Just add them alongside the sauce and toss gently to warm them through without further cooking.
