How To Use Greek Yogurt Sandwich Spread In Various Ways?

Think of this Greek Yogurt Sandwich Spread as your Swiss Army knife for your lunch recipes. Its refreshing taste and creamy texture make it an excellent companion not just for soft bread slices but for a variety of dishes.

Whether it's drizzling it inside a Greek Halloumi Wrap, adding a tangy twist to Beetroot Burgers or Halloumi Burgers, or serving as a delightful dip for Greek-style quesadillas, this spread does it all. Its versatility extends to salad dressings-just loosen it with a little water for a Grilled Peach and Chicken Salad or a Spiced Paneer Salad. It's even fantastic with baked white fish.

Probably the easiest way to make the best of this simple recipe is to serve it as a tasty snack with a variety of fresh veggies: sticks of English cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, colorful bell peppers etc.

    Ingredients and Substitutes

To make this easy recipe, you'll feed:

    • plain Greek yogurt for that creamy yogurt base, a healthier alternative to cream cheese or sour cream. We don't recommend using low fat yogurt or non-fat yogurt, unless it's thick and creamy, otherwise, your yogurt spread will be too thin and watery.
    • fresh herbs like parsley and fresh mint, finely chopped, to add that herbal element that elevates the flavor profile.
    • A clove of minced fresh garlic, offering a punchy contrast to the mild yogurt.
    • A pinch of kosher salt and black pepper to season and bring out the flavors.
Mint on a wooden chopping board and parsley in a small white bowl.

Find the quantities, instructions and nutritional values in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

Substitutes are easy if you're looking to tweak the recipe. Not a fan of mint? Fresh dill or even dried herbs can offer a different but equally delicious taste.

Ran out of garlic cloves?  A sprinkle of garlic powder can do the trick without overpowering the spread, or you may use very finely chopped red onion instead!

    Variations and Additions

The beauty of this Greek Yogurt Sandwich Spread lies in its adaptability. Consider adding lemon juice (and lemon zest, if you want) or lime juice for a citrusy kick, or small cucumber slices for a crunchy texture reminiscent of tzatziki sauce.

For a more complex flavour, a teaspoon of Dijon mustard or a dash of extra virgin olive oil can add depth.

Want to spice things up? Red chili flakes will give you that heat. And for those who love a bit of sweetness, a hint of honey works wonders.

    Method

Creating this spread is as simple as it gets.

    1. Using a sharp knife, very finely chop your fresh parsley and mint.

    2. In a small bowl, combine the Greek yogurt with the finely chopped herbs and minced garlic.

    3. Season with salt and black pepper, and give it a good mix.

    4. Cover with plastic wrap and allow the yogurt mixture to sit for a little while for the flavours to meld beautifully together.

    Tips for Best Results

    • Use strained yogurt or hung curd for a thicker, creamier texture.
    • Let the spread rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving to let the flavours develop fully.
    • If you want a pale green smooth spread or veggie dip, tip everything into a food processor and whizz until combined.
    • If the spread is too thick for your liking, thin it out with a bit of cold water or lemon juice to achieve the perfect consistency - this is especially handy when using it as a salad dressing.

    Recipe FAQs

Can I Use Mayo Instead of Greek Yogurt?

While you can substitute mayo for Greek yogurt, doing so will significantly change the flavor and nutritional profile of the spread. Greek yogurt offers a tangy taste and a lighter, healthier option.

How Long Will This Greek Yogurt Sandwich Spread Keep In The Fridge?

Stored in an airtight container, the spread can last up to 3 days in the fridge. Just give it a good stir before using it again, and you're good to go. After that, the fresh herbs used in the spread will start losing their vibrant colour, making the spread unappealing.

I share my life with my husband Seb, who doubles as my number-one taste tester, our golden retriever Sawyer, who’s always on crumb patrol and multiple sourdough starters. My days revolve around food—whether I’m experimenting with new recipes, tending to my veggie garden, or sneaking bites of “taste tests” (quality control, of course). Cooking isn’t just a passion; it’s my way of keeping Seb from reaching ‘hangry’ levels! Somebody HAS to feed Seb…
