Harissa Yogurt Sauce is the sassy little number our meals have been waiting for! That's right! Creamy Greek yogurt meets fiery rose harissa, with a tangy kick of lemon, a hint of garlic, and just enough honey to keep things interesting. Drizzle it, dip it, or dollop it - you may even eat with a spoon straight out of a bowl (Seb does!).

Versatile Harrisa Yogurt Recipe
A jar of harissa doesn't last long in our kitchen - that's because we cannot get enough of this spicy harissa yogurt dip that does it all.
It's perfect alongside crispy carrot fritters, courgette fritters (or sourdough courgette fritters), sweet potato fritters or tempura sweet potatoes, and it's a dream team with Lebanese falafel.
Looking to level up your salads? Use it as a beautiful dressing or a drizzle over grain bowls (try it over our Moroccan Cous Cous Salad) for that extra zing.
And when it comes to mains, this sauce pairs beautifully with lamb chops, pan-fried salmon (you must try it with Dukkah Crusted Salmon), or Grilled Chicken Thigh Skewers. It goes exceptionally well with our Baked Harrisa Chicken Thighs too. Whatever you're cooking, this versatile sauce is here to make it better - A LOT better!
Ingredients and Substitutes
- Greek yogurt: ideally full-fat. You may use natural plain yogurt but it tends to be less thick.
- extra virgin olive oil: optional. Skip it if your harissa is quite oily.
- rose harissa paste: different brands have varying heat levels, so make sure to make adjustments. Our favourite is Belazu Rose Harissa.
- garlic clove.
- lemon juice: can be replaced with lime juice.
- clear honey: or maple syrup, agave nectar or treacle.
- salt.

But What Is Harissa?
Harissa is a spicy, flavour-packed paste hailing from North Africa, especially popular in Tunisian, Moroccan, and Algerian cuisine. Made from a blend of chillies, garlic, olive oil, and warm spices like cumin and coriander, it often gets a floral twist with the addition of rose petals. Harissa adds a bold kick to everything from tagines and stews to marinades and dips.

How To Make Harissa Sauce?
Add all the ingredients (starting with 1 tablespoon of harissa and adjusting based on your spice preference as you go) into a small bowl and mix until combined.
Taste and add more harissa as needed. Alternatively, if you are serving harissa yogurt as a dip, you may swirl some extra harissa through the dip.

Tips & Recipe FAQs
This dip is extremely easy to get right the first time. The main thing to note is that you should adjust the amount of harissa based on your own preferences.
Absolutely! This dip gets even better as it sits, so feel free to make it ahead for the flavours to really meld together.
No worries-just add a bit more yogurt or a drizzle of honey to mellow out the heat.
It is perfectly natural for the oil to separate from the yogurt. Just mix it well and enjoy the pretty stands of red oil running through the dip!

Storage
Got leftovers? Lucky you! Store your harissa yogurt sauce in an airtight container in the fridge, and it'll stay fresh for up to 5 days-perfect for meal prep. Before diving in, take it out of the fridge and let it come to room temperature and give it a quick stir to get those flavours popping. We don't recommend freezing this dip.
